What loads on this site

One third-party script: Google Tag Manager. It is a container that loads the measurement tags we configure inside it, and those tags — not Tag Manager itself — are what may set cookies. An analytics tag normally sets a small number of first-party cookies used to tell one visit from another.

Nothing else phones home. Fonts are served from our own domain rather than a font CDN, and the calculators run entirely in your browser. Blocking third-party scripts stops Tag Manager without affecting anything on the site, because no feature here depends on it.

What is stored on your device

One item, and it is not a cookie. Your light or dark theme choice is saved in your browser's local storage under the key theme, so the site does not flash the wrong colours when you return.

Local storage is never transmitted with requests, so we cannot read it on our servers. Clearing your browsing data removes it and the site falls back to your system preference.

Consent, and where we currently stand

There is no consent banner on this site yet. That is a gap rather than a position: a Google-certified consent management platform is required before advertising runs for visitors in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland, and the same mechanism is what should gate measurement tags for those visitors. It will be in place before advertising is switched on.

In the meantime you can block third-party scripts in your browser, or opt out of Google's advertising personalisation at the links below.

What will change when we enable advertising

This site is intended to be funded by advertising through Google AdSense. That is currently switched off — the reserved ad spaces render as empty placeholders and no ad code is loaded.

When advertising is enabled, three things will change and this page will be updated the same day:

  • Advertising cookies. Google and its partners will set cookies and similar identifiers to serve, cap the frequency of, and measure ads.
  • A consent banner, for some visitors. For the EEA, UK and Switzerland we will deploy a Google-certified consent management platform. Advertising and measurement identifiers will not be set until consent is given through it, and you will be able to change your choice from this page.
  • Third-party requests. Your browser will begin contacting Google's ad servers on page load.

Controlling cookies yourself

Every major browser lets you block or delete cookies, either entirely or per site, from its privacy settings. Blocking third-party cookies prevents most advertising tracking without affecting how this site works, because we rely on none of it.

You can also opt out of personalised advertising atGoogle Ads Settingsor across participating vendors ataboutads.info.

Our privacy policy covers what we collect more broadly.
